Five years ago this month, we purchased a condo at The Lake of the Ozarks with my husband’s family. It fulfilled a dream of his that we always joked about years prior because although I grew up going there with friends and their families, I’m not really a big “lake” kind of girl per say (the water- blech)!! Over time, that property increased in value as our families increased in size. We decided it was time to upgrade to something that would give us more space both inside and out. I became more excited about the lake when taking into consideration the ability to make it our own (you know I love a decorating project) and the additional space that would provide endless possibilities for things to do together. My sisters in law are some of my FAVORITE PEOPLE and we collectively started making project plans to renovate the house immediately after purchasing! So let’s dive into the amazing MLS “before” pics!
First, the upper level living room. This is the larger of the two living areas. Unfortunately they took the amazing swordfish and left the lovely floral furniture. Ha! My favorite thing about this space is all of the windows that help fill the room with natural light. Our plan is to take down the curtains, then paint the paneling a dark, moody gray and the small section of wall above it a warm white. We are going to tackle lime washing the fireplace and stone trim to get rid of the tan, pink, and orange tones. Wish us luck on that project! Then the tv will go on that mantel instead of on the massive entertainment center they left behind. All new furniture has been ordered for this space. There’s a fun little nook that will get a tulip table and 4 chairs for art projects, puzzles, and cards. This is the room I’m most excited about transforming! I can’t wait for you to see it!

The kitchen is amazing! It has all new appliances, flooring, backsplash and quartz countertops. The two main projects for this space are painting the cabinets a warm white and either building or buying an island that would seat the kids and serve as a workspace.

I love this old, wood-burning stove! Bonus: it still works!

The lower living level is right off the kitchen. Again, it has lots of windows for great natural light! We’re not doing a lot in this space. We will paint the walls a light gray and have purchased new furniture. This includes a larger corner media stand and new chairs for the table (the back of the room will be the spot for our dining table since it’s right off the kitchen). We loved the sectional that we purchased for the upper living room so much that we purchased the couch version for this space!

There is a deck off the above living space that is a great size. We will replace the table with a larger one and will utilize the built-in bench for seating on one side of the table.

There are 4 bedrooms. Two of them are definitely on the smaller side, including this one. We will paint the walls the same light gray as the lower living room and are replacing the dresser with a smaller chest of drawers. We are keeping this bed for the other small bedroom and have bought a pretty tufted greenish-blue headboard to replace it.

This is the bedroom I am most excited for and will be fighting for each time we’re there! We are painting the walls a dark, moody green and replacing the headboard with the one from the bedroom above. The bedding is cream velvet. I love the character of the hanging vintage-looking pendant in the corner. There is a vintage dresser that tucks perfectly into a nook next to the closet that we are going to update with paint and new hardware.

The Master bedroom is a really great size. The main changes in this room will be fresh white paint and new furniture. This room has a seating area not pictured that is perfect for a daybed with a trundle so that it could sleep an entire family!

The last bedroom is the loft. We’re very excited to make this room a space for the kids to both sleep and hang out in. The walls are going to be a deep blue-green and I can’t wait for you to see it paired with the bedding! If you’re going to take risks with color, the kids’ space seems like a great place to do it!

We are thrilled to have a yard for the kids and dogs to enjoy and get their energy out! We have a fence going in this winter. Other plans include adding a Lily Pad, slide, arborvitae along the concrete wall, some smaller watercrafts, an outdoor speaker, and chairs around the beach firepit.

We hope to knock out painting and furniture assembly at the end of this month. I can’t wait to share the progress of making this house a home away from home for family and friends!

Cannot wait to follow this progress!!!
Thanks for following along Kayla!
