Centerpiece
I always begin setting our table by start in the middle with the centerpiece. My two favorite things to incorporate are candlelight and greenery. Candles can be real or faux, sticks or pillars. I personally love real candlelight. If using pillars, I’d recommend placing them on a tray to protect your table just to be safe! Regardless, candlelight (even in the daytime) always seems to set a cozy mood. Then, I have a collection of vases in various sizes on a shelf in my pantry that I love to use for arrangements. Trader Joe’s is my go to place for inexpensive, beautiful floral bouquets and greenery. I love their eucalyptus and magnolia stems for fall & winter tables!
Dishes
Gather dishes, chargers, placemats and platters that are neutral so that things don’t get too busy and the food can be the focal point! I love white dishes, wooden or metal chargers, and cloth linens that are cream, tan, or gray. Of course disposable napkins work too! Lay out your placemats and chargers at each place.
Place Settings
Place a plate on each placemat and/or charger, then gather your silverware. Forks go on the left, knives and spoons go on the right. Put each water glass in the top right corner of the placemat (above the knife). Lastly, I like to place my napkins on top of the dinner plates (instead of under the forks). I don’t currently have napkin rings, but they’re a great touch!
Now fill the table with yummy FOOD + YOUR PEOPLE and you can’t go wrong! Happy Holidays!
